Sesenta y siete oraciones con will be, de «It will be sunny tomorrow» a «That'll be the postman», traducidas y explicadas por usos.

¿Qué es will be?

Will be combina el auxiliar modal will con la forma base del verbo be. Como will es invariable, la forma es la misma para todas las personas: I will be, she will be, they will be. En la lengua hablada casi siempre se contrae en ‘ll be (I’ll be, we’ll be) y su negación es won’t be (will not be).

Forma Estructura Modelo
Afirmativa sujeto + will (‘ll) + be It will be hot.
Negativa sujeto + won’t (will not) + be It won’t be hot.
Interrogativa Will + sujeto + be…? Will it be hot?
Respuesta corta Yes, it will. / No, it won’t. No se repite be.
Futuro continuo will be + verbo en -ing I’ll be working.
Pasiva en futuro will be + participio It will be sold.

Tras will nunca va to ni una forma conjugada: el verbo siempre aparece en infinitivo sin to, igual que ocurre con can y can’t.

Ejercicios resueltos

★ Practica paso a paso

1. Completa: «Tomorrow ___ (be) a long day».

Futuro simple de be, igual para todas las personas: Tomorrow will be a long day.

2. Pasa a negativa: «The library will be open».

Se añade not a will, normalmente contraído: The library won’t be open.

3. Convierte en pregunta: «There will be snow in the mountains».

Se invierte will con there: Will there be snow in the mountains?

4. Traduce: «Mañana a las diez estaré trabajando».

Acción en curso en un momento futuro, futuro continuo: I’ll be working at ten tomorrow.

5. Transforma en pasiva: «They will announce the prizes on Sunday».

El objeto pasa a sujeto y se usa will be + participio: The prizes will be announced on Sunday.

6. ¿Qué expresa «That’ll be my brother» cuando suena el timbre?

Preguntas frecuentes

¿Qué significa will be?

Es el futuro del verbo to be. Según el contexto se traduce por «seré», «estaré», «habrá» (there will be), «hará» con el tiempo atmosférico o «cumpliré» con la edad.

¿Will be es el futuro de ser o de estar?

De los dos. El inglés solo tiene be, así que «será difícil» y «estará cerrado» se dicen con will be: it will be difficult, it will be closed.

¿Cuál es la forma negativa de will be?

Will not be, que casi siempre se contrae en won’t be: «It won’t be easy» (no será fácil).

Sí, con I y we en un inglés británico formal o algo anticuado («We shall be pleased to help»). Hoy lo habitual es will be o la contracción ‘ll be.
