Future simple
Con I y we puede usarse shall, hoy reservado casi siempre a ofrecimientos y sugerencias en inglés británico (Shall I…?, Shall we…?).
| Forma | Estructura | Ejemplo |
|---|---|---|
| Afirmativa | sujeto + will (‘ll) + verbo | She will call. / She’ll call. |
| Negativa | sujeto + will not (won’t) + verbo | She won’t call. |
| Interrogativa | Will + sujeto + verbo…? | Will she call? |
| Respuesta corta | Yes, sujeto + will. / No, sujeto + won’t. | Yes, she will. / No, she won’t. |
| Pregunta con partícula | partícula + will + sujeto + verbo…? | When will she call? |
- Will es igual para todas las personas: no lleva -s en tercera persona (he will work, nunca he wills work).
- El verbo que sigue va en forma base, sin to y sin conjugar: I will go, no I will to go.
- En la lengua hablada se contrae: I’ll, you’ll, she’ll, we’ll, they’ll; la negativa contraída es won’t.
- Tras when, as soon as, until, before, after o if se usa presente, aunque la idea sea futura: When I arrive, I’ll call you.
- Suele ir con expresiones de tiempo como tomorrow, next week, in 2030, soon o one day.

Diferencia entre future simple y going to
| Future simple (will) | Going to |
|---|---|
| 59. «The tap is dripping.» «I’ll call the plumber.» — —El grifo gotea. —Llamo al fontanero. | 60. I’m going to call the plumber on Monday; I’ve already got his number.

Preguntas frecuentes
Con el auxiliar will seguido del verbo en forma base, sin to: I will work, she will work. La negativa es will not o won’t, y la pregunta se forma colocando will delante del sujeto: Will you work?
Como futuro neutro (I shall go) suena formal o anticuado.
¿Se puede usar will después de when o if?
When you arrive, call me; If it rains, we’ll stay in.
